Daft Punk full length feature movie coming in July!

Via ResidentAdvisor:

First they conquered your stereo, now they’re coming for your movie theatres. Daft Punk’s first feature film, ‘Electroma’, will hit the big screens starting this July.

The seventy-four minute long film tells the story of two robots and their quest to become human, involving lots of drawn out scenes of said robots zooming around in a Ferrari — you know, for the artistic value. Keeping with the artsy theme, ‘Electroma’ contains no dialogue. Sure, DP are famous for keeping mum, but in a movie? “We were more concerned with imagery than plot,” Bangalter told Vice Magazine recently. “When we started taking images out of our heads we weren’t worried about arranging logical connections between them.” Sounds heady.

But don’t expect Daft Punk in front of the cameras. The robot duo are played by actors; instead, Bangalter and Homem-Christo directed the film. “With this film, we had the same approach as when we started making music,” Homem-Christo told Mixmag last year. “Create without any rules or standards. Take a free approach to something new that you don’t really know, and learn from scratch.”

Don’t go along expecting Daft Punk music either. Instead the soundtrack features cuts by Brian Eno, Todd Rundgren, Sébastien Tellier and Curtis Mayfield among others.

The film debuted at the Director’s Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival in 2006, where it received a mixed reaction. Many audience members left the screening during the lengthy desert trek sequence, while critics have compared the loose structure of the movie to Gus Van Sant’s ‘Gerry’ or Vincent Gallo’s ‘The Brown Bunny’.

While we’re on the subject, check out this awesome music video remake for Daft Punk’s Harder Better Faster Stronger.
